Noticed one of the rail caps on our outside stair rail had broken and fallen off a few weeks ago. Measured & purchased 2 of these so I can keep the 2 caps the same (and hard to tell online if it's the exact same as the ones we have). They arived quickly, once the weather was over 50 degrees for glue they were installed in just a few minutes with some of the tough outdoor glue we used for other outdoor things. They look great, seem to be a very good replacement & I'm glad I bought 2 so the opposite posts match. They are a tiny bit different from the ones further back, but not drastically different. I used a sleeve on a pressure treated redwood 4X4 with this on the BOTTOM so no soil would come in contact with the wood to help preserve it. I didn't need concrete doing it this way. Much easier and much cheaper. No mess. Just a couple of deck screws to hold it in place while I sank the post was all I needed. It would have looked great on top as well but I went with a solar lighted cap because out in the forest at night its hard to see my driveway. The light on top helps. This cap would have looked just fine on top too tho.This will fit IF: You cover the 4x4 with a PVC or other plastic slip over wrapOne seems like another, how do you pick? I just shot in the dark, but was pleasantly surprised to find that this one (among many) was heavy, solid, sturdy, and fit our PVC 4x4 post cover very well - no random breeze is going to blow it off. (we have a 4x4 lumber post with a pvc cover that makes the true dimension 4" x 4"). If you are looking for the same thing, this is an excellent choice. Our other newel post covers are fancier, but for the simple shape, I recommend this one highly.Perfect, snug fit.
