April 2015: I just installed the white colored post in a snap and it looks great, highly recommended. I added the Gibraltar HM16NL01 mailbox with this for reference. Address numbers are not included.This post is much better quality than anything that comes would come from Step2 or similar. There are no visible seams in the vinyl, it is a fairly thick gauge, and the corners are well-defined. Our mail woman came by while I was finishing installation and told me how great it looked. Several neighbors in our new development already stopped by and commented on this as well. This with a nice mailbox added to it can do a lot to add curb-appeal to your home.Installation was incredibly simple and took about 2 hours in total with typical tools. A couple of things to note:- This is a well-made vinyl shell intended to slip over a pressure treated 4x4 post. You will likely need to stop by your local home improvement store and pick up a new 4x4x8 post to install for this. Ours that was in place for our old, crappy Step2 mailbox/post combo was too short to accommodate this post because the out-hanging arm needs to be drilled into the post. This is very important and could make your project more difficult if your previous post was cemented in and/or too short.- Given the above note, I would absolutely not recommend using a simple post anchor with this alone. This post is sturdy and well-made, but I would not trust it on a hot summer day with a heavy mailbox. Seriously, spend the $10 and 30 minutes installing on a new treated 4x4 post.- I have no idea what mailbox would line up with the holes in the arm, but it's probably not going to be any mailbox you purchase. Expect to have to drill holes in the bottom of a new mailbox to install this. To do this, we put the mailbox in place on the arm and ran a small drill bit up the holes through the newspaper slot to scratch drill marks into the bottom of the mailbox. Drilled through with a 1/4" bit (instructions recommended 3/8") This took about 45 minutes of the 2 hours I stated to install this. Again, we used the Gibraltar HM16NL01 mailbox found here on Amazon. It's a large steel mailbox and sits on it quite well.- The newspaper slot is quite small and my installation with 1/4" x 2" bolts and wing nuts comes through the top of the mail slot area a good 1/2" and makes it a bit smaller. I imagine if you get one or more newspapers delivered (whoever still does that) they will end up crammed in there and caught on your hanging bolts from the mailbox.I added pictures after the installation. Honestly, I spent more time on the review than the project.
